Velddrif, South Africa

Velddrif is a coastal fishing town in the Western Cape. It's on the estuary where the Berg River flows into St. Helena Bay. The estuary is home to a variety of birds and there is a bird hide for birdwatching. Besides birdwatching, there's also fishing and yachting. Velddrif also has two large salt works, which provide much of the salt for the Western Cape. You can't miss the mountains of salt when you drive into Velddrif along the bridge from Vredenburg.

Hubby took this photo of me
and our son, Jeremiah.

Fish called Bokkoms hanging to dry.

More bokkoms drying against the wall
and Jeremiah and me having a drink
while Hubby is playing paparazzi.

Take only photographs.
Leave only footprints.
Kill nothing but time.

I'm sure the quote above
was based on a similar
one by Chief Seattle:
Take only memories,
leave nothing but footprints.

Here's another version of it:
Leave nothing but footprints.
Take nothing but pictures.
Kill nothing but time.

There's a bit of everything pasted to that door, like the toilet key, and above that a double photo of the Queen of England beside President Zuma. And, how can you not feel sorry for the kid in the "Africa Day Care" photo? I only saw it when I was preparing this post.

One of my favorite posts from last year was An Afternoon at Velddrif. Below are two photos from that series. If you missed it, then go ahead and click on the link to see more neat photos!
